Are you suffering emotionally and psychologically following a traumatic event?
Are you:
- Often feeling overwhelmed and irritable?
- Experience difficulties sleeping or/and can’t get up in the morning?
- Feeling cut of from people close to you?
- End up over and over in failed relationships?
- Having recurrent memories of the stressful event?
- Feeling anxious, depressed and/or struggling with self-esteem?
You may have been the object of stressful life events, such as: car accident, childhood abuse and neglect, crime, fire, natural disasters, death of a loved one and physical or psychological violence.
However, less stressful events such as workplace harassment, the ending of a relationship or the death of a pet, can also lead to or re-trigger unresolved trauma.
We know from a lot of research and our own experiences that when we endure trauma, we often lose a sense of safety, well-being and joy.
Trauma is not a life sentence!
Healing the emotional and physiological impact of unresolved trauma is possible !
Through my multi-model approach to trauma therapy, you can experience:
- A reduction or elimination of your trauma symptoms
- An increase in optimism, self-esteem and hope
- A new ability to put the past in the past - where it belongs! -
- An enhanced ability to meet and enjoy life !
My approach
My overall counselling style is gentle and effective. Prior to re-processing traumatic memories I believe that it is key to helping you to expand your capacity to feel safe, to access your inner strengths and resources.
Through my multi-model approach I have helped many clients to regain their sense of well being. To help you deal with unresolved trauma I combine three different approaches (see description below) and can design a unique and individualized treatment approach that fully responds to your specific needs:
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Recent developments in trauma treatment led by such pioneers as Pat Ogden have recognized the importance of including the body in resolving trauma. It is the body that experiences trauma, the body that holds the trauma and it is often through the body that trauma can be healed. Treatments that focus solely on the cognitive or affective elements of post-traumatic symptoms often fail to address the underlying somatic activation that many traumatized individuals experience. Sensorimotor Therapy, on the other end, focuses on working with the physiology, with the somatic symptoms, and emphasizes the importance of working with and through the body.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an effective and powerful approach that draws from behavioral and cognitive models. This method uses alternating stimuli --eye movement, sound or tapping-- in order to reduce emotional distress and negative thinking linked to specific events or people. Research shows that EMDR is an effective approach to treat trauma.
